“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.”
Today is remembrance Day. We’re joining our community in coming together to commemorate the fallen soldiers of the First and Second World War, and other conflicts.
Remembrance Day, which is the anniversary of the end of hostilities in the First World War, takes place on the 11th of November since 1918. A two minute silence will be held at 11AM in honour of those who sacrificed their lives on our behalf.
This year marks the 114 years since the armistice was signed. Thousands will gather at the Cenotaph in London for the National Service of Remembrance in Whitehall alongside hundreds of service men and women.
This week we took part in poppy making with personalised messages, assembly about courage from Mrs Mackay. During our remembrance service this morning, Mrs Harper spoke, students planted poppies, and the last post was heard on the bugle.
We believe that teaching the importance of remembrance day and the history behind it is essential for our pupils and our community, and we are proud of our pupils for demonstrating their respect during commemorations.
